We’ve developed an extensive reference collection showcasing families of aquatic macroinvertebrates commonly encountered throughout Queensland and New South Wales. This resource strengthens the accuracy and consistency of identifications.

Our team holds AUSRIVAS accreditation for family-level identification of freshwater macroinvertebrates. To ensure rigorous quality assurance, we collaborate with a trusted network of expert taxonomists.

We process a range of freshwater macroinvertebrate samples including live-picked AUSRIVAS samples, field preserved bulk samples, replicate, surber and stygofauna samples. 


SMI utilises a high quality microscope and a Marchant Sub-sampler for processing samples as well as up to date identification keys and the latest in taxonomy.
